MONTEVALLO, AL (WBRC)- In addition to fighting mold, Montevallo Elementary is also cleaning up some old floor tiles that contain asbestos.
According to a school spokesperson, Cindy Warner, these tiles have been in the building for some time and the school has been monitoring the flooring per EPA guidelines.
Warner says that the school has elected to hire Lakeshore Environmental to remove the flooring tiles while the school is shut down to deal with mold.
The EPA also conducted an audit several weeks ago to determine how well the school has been following their rules. There is no word on the results of that audit.
