Shelby County High School band to participate in governor's inauguration parade | News
The marching band from Shelby County High School will participate in the inauguration parade for one of its own alumni, governor-elect Robert Bentley. Bentley is a native of Columbiana and while attending Shelby County High School, he served as student body president during his senior year, participated in the 1961 state champion debate team and graduated at the top of his class.
Dubbed "The Pride of Shelby County," the marching band will represent the Wildcats as they play the "Marches of the Armed Forces" as well as the "Shelby County High School Fight Song." Tom Grigsby will direct the band, which will appear 6th out of a total of 92 participants in the parade Monday, Jan. 17.
The inauguration parade will begin at 9:45 a.m. along Dexter Ave. in Mongomery and is scheduled to wrap-up around 11:30 a.m. We will stream the parade live on our website which you can view at www.foxalabamalive.com.
At noon, Governor-elect Robert Bentley will be sworn in as the 53rd Governor of Alabama at the State Capitol. You can watch the inauguration live on our noon show or on our website.
Other inauguration events for the day include a celebration at 2 p.m. in the Montgomery Biscuits Baseball Stadium which is open to the public and will offer live music, inflatable play areas for kids, and remarks from Bentley. Free food samples from locally-produced food companies including Golden Flake, Milo’s Tea, Kelley Foods and Barbers Dairy will also be available. The Inauguration Celebration will conclude at 5 p.m. with a fireworks show.
The final event for Bentley’s first day in office will be the inauguration ball, which will be hosted in the Renaissance Hotel & Spa at the Convention Center from 7-10 p.m.
