Calera police are investigating a home invasion in which shots were fired Thursday morning.
Calera Police Chief Sean Lemley says two armed Hispanic males broke into a home in the 300 block of Pilgreen Drive just before 9 a.m. A Hispanic family of four, including a couple and two children ages 9 years old and four months, were inside at the time of the invasion.
Police say the victim was also armed and fired three or four shots during the home invasion. The family is OK and no one was hurt, officials say.
The suspects allegedly grabbed jewelry and cash before fleeing on foot. Police believe they got into a vehicle at some point, but they have not said which direction they traveled or what type of vehicle they may be traveling in.
Several Calera police investigators responded to the home and roped off an area with crime scene tape. The house is located just off of Highway 25. There appears to be a house, barn and storage facility on the property.
Two neighbors told FOX6 News reported Clare Huddleston that they heard multiple gunshots Thursday morning.
Police are not releasing any information about the suspects and also are not commenting on whether they think the crime was random or if the family was targeted. Officials did say they believe the incident is isolated, and other people in the neighborhood do not need to be worried.
FOX6 News has a crew on the scene and will update this story with information as we receive it. You can follow updates from Clare Huddleston on Twitter @Fox6Clare.
